Blue

A bit of an almost happier, feel-good type poem, with some sad undertones when you really sit down to read it. I also wrote this a very long time ago and is actually meant to be a love poem about a guy I used to like. I don’t find myself writing “happy” poems very often, but I remember really wanting to play with color for this one. I feel as though blue is typically a color used for negative emotions, like sadness and melancholy. But blue doesn’t always have to be that. I really hope to anyone who reads this poem will be able to really feel the two sides of the color blue.

It’s the summer ocean,

Waves crashing on the beach with

intense enthusiasm,

Lapping up anyone who gets too close.

It’s the October breeze,

Cold, yet warm and waiting

patiently for the first storm,

A subtle sign that winter is almost here.

It’s an icy pond,

Untouched by the sharp blades

of children's ice skates,

Waiting in anticipation to be walked upon.

It’s eyes,

Windows to the soul that

show much more than planned,

Pain and happiness mixed into one being.

It’s a feeling,

So dark and so deep that

it slowly builds over time,

Masking anything else that might be there.

It’s you,

A sliver of hope in a world that

cares little for the ones within,

A reassurance that everything will be alright.
